Welcome to the Poetry section!
For those of you who love music, these projects may prove to be your favorite as well as your strength. Throughout your writing process, I offer several helpful hints.
1. Start early. This gives you a chance to work methodically, walk away from your work, and come back with a fresh mind.
2. Start with the end in mind. That is, don't just start writing aimlessly. Try to have an overall message, lesson, or theme. Freewrite, free associate, brainstorm about it and see what you come up with.
3. You don't need to start writing poetry by WRITING POETRY. Many times, simply writing out sentences or poetic paragraphs will help you get all of your great ideas onto the page without the pressure of making it "poetry" yet. Sift through what you've written. Move some stuff around. Play with different line breaks.
